CUNY Application, Deadline, Status and Transfers 2020

This article brings you information on the CUNY application procedures. City University New York is one of the largest and outstanding colleges in New York City with numerous subsidiaries. However, this article is aimed at helping prospective college students who would love to study at the city university to have a clue on the admission application processes, its requirements, expected duration for approval of the application and how to check the admission status.

CUNY Application 

Step 1: Determine Your College Choices and Academic Programs; applicants must first of all be certain about their choice of the academic program, and proceed to click here to check for the availability of such a program at the city university before going on with the application.

Step 2: Create a CUNY Application Account Or Log into your existing account commonly referred to as CUNYFirst Account

Step 3. Visit the CUNY Application page to get started and download cuny application. The aid of a desktop computer is highly recommended for the completion of the CUNY online application form. Applicants must avoid the use of a mobile or tablet device for the completion of online forms. This is because of their limited features.

Step 3: Complete the Online Application form

You will be presented with several pages of questions to complete. Complete the questions on each page.

REMINDER: Freshmen applicants can select up to 6 college choices, while Transfer applicants can select up to 4 college choices. All applicants will receive an admission decision from each college listed on their application.

Step 4: Pay Your Application Fee;

After completing each section of the application, you will be prompted to pay your application fee. The application fee is $65 for freshman applicants

Payment can be made online using one of the following mediums:

  • American Express
  • Discover
  • Electronic Check
  • MasterCard
  • Visa

Step 5. Submit Money Order via Mail:

Submit a money order payable to “CUNY” to the address listed below. Write your CUNYfirst ID number on your money order. You can find your CUNYfirst ID number (an 8 digit number) on your Application Summary.

*The application fee is non-refundable.
**Current CUNY students are exempt from paying the transfer application fee.
***Veterans of the United States Military Service, currently on Active Duty or members of the National Guard or Reserves may obtain an application fee waiver by answering the US Military Status question on the CUNY application and submitting proof of their Veteran/Military status (ie., DD-214, Current Military ID Card, or Deployment or Pre-separation orders).

Step 6: Submit Your Application

After submitting your application you will be able to print or download a copy of your Application Summary. You can find your CUNYfirst ID number (an 8 digit number) on your Application Summary. You will need your CUNYfirst ID number for submitting supporting documents.

How to Check Your CUNY Application Status.

Submit Your Supporting Documents. Submission of supporting documents is the next significant step to be taken after completion and submission of the CUNY online application form

After submitting supporting documents, please allow 3-4 weeks for application status to be updated. Please note that all materials and documents submitted as part of an application for admission become the property of CUNY and cannot be returned.

All documents are to be submitted to the University Application Center. You will need your CUNYfirst ID number (an 8 digit number) when submitting supporting documents. Below is a general list of documents to be submitted:

  • High School Transcript or proof of High School Equivalency degree
  • College, University and/or Proprietary School Transcript (transfers only)
  • Standardized Test Scores
  • Recommendations,
  • Personal Statements,
  • Other supporting materials; Recommendation Letters, Essays/Portfolios/Resumes
  • Supplemental Application for Selective Programs

Applicants should note that the application decision depends on the school. General freshmen will be notified differently while those for specific school programs will be notified differently by the school segment.

CUNY application Deadlines Fall    

The CUNY application deadline is given below. This deadline excludes the CUNY School of Professional Studies.

*Two-step notification process:
1) Beginning in mid-February applicants will be notified of their admission decision as General Freshman by all college choices listed on their application.
2) March 16 – Macaulay applicants will be notified of their admission decision into Macaulay Honors College by only one of the college choices listed on their application.

CUNY Transfers

Applicants intending to transfer from other colleges to CUNY should please note application procedure remains the same and transfer applicants can select up to 4 college choices.

That all materials and documents (including original documents) submitted as part of an application for admission become the property of CUNY/UAPC and cannot be returned.

In addition to the above-listed requirements, Transfer Students are to present the college and/or Proprietary School Transcript(s)

CUNY Transfer Application Fee

The application fee for Transfer applicants is $70 and it is Nonrefundable.

You can apply to multiple campuses using a single application. You should determine your college choices and academic programs before starting your application. Be sure to review the Admission Profile for last year’s admitted class.

CUNY acceptance rate

The CUNY acceptance rate varies from year to year. However, a good number of students are given admission yearly.
